Cover Art

I was tasked with taking one topic and adapting it to different forms of media. I decided to focus on film, and I created the podcast On Directors. This podcast focuses on a different director each episode and covers a topic relating to them. It might cover one of their most important movies, style, or influences. It all depends on who director.

Process

I decided to have the first few episodes focus on some of my favorite filmmakers. Greta Gerwig, Christopher Nolan, and Tim Burton. I started by doing more research on each of them and finding something that interested me to cover in a podcast episode.

I would edit the episode in Garageband

After coming up with an episode outline it was time to start recording. This was the trickiest part for me because I have no experience in this area. I had to get over the sound of my voice, and I didn’t have any good recording equipment. I read online that the best place to record was in a closet. So I ended up in my closet with a blanket over my head recording on my iPhone. Not the most luxurious setup, but the only problem I ran into was getting really hot and sweaty underneath the blanket. It was a fun process though, and I was pretty happy with the results. I would record into voice memos on my phone and then airdrop it to my computer and compile the episode in GarageBand.

Improvements

I feel like it took me about one podcast to start feeling more comfortable. The first podcast I recorded I was trying to minimize my breathing so it wouldn’t be picked up by the mic. Also when I made I messed up one line I would stop and redo that entire section. I realized that it went a lot quicker if I just redid that one line and then fixed it in editing.

Publishing podcast.

I published the podcast through https://anchor.fm. It was a super easy process. I just uploaded my podcast art, audio files, and added metadata. Then I was good to go!

Conclusion.

Overall this was a very informative and fun experience. It was a learning process since I don’t have much experience with audio. It helped me to learn more about taking a topic and creating content around it and learn more about the wonderful world of podcasting.
